Ride2Nowhere is a 3 day MTB stage race in clover leaf format held in McGregor every September. A great family event and for racing snakes alike. WeChat & Ride2Nowhere have started the Young Warriors initiative which started in September 2016. Seven GT 29’er hard tail bikes were supplied by WeChat.
The Young Warriors now have a core group of 6 to 8 riders who ride regularly 4 to 5 times a week. That have flat pedals and slime tubes. The bikes are housed at the local Breede Centre in McGregor. All the riders are grade 8 to 12 and are schooled in Robertson & live in McGregor.
Max Menzies, a loyal supporter of Trail and Tar and an avid (possibly obsessed) cyclist, has recently moved to McGregor and has taken up a mentorship role for these enthusiast young riders and makes sure they have fun and learn the ways of mountain biking
A request from Max:”We desperately short of 4 to 5 helmets, any old unused bike tools, 29’er tires, tubes, puncture kits or old complete wheels, maybe even a bike stand plus a few gloves. We have enough kit as Trail and Tar plus last year’s R2N participants were great in donating. These young men take nothing for granted and I guarantee all donors that everything donated will be greatly appreciated by the group who call themselves McGregor’s young warriors.”
“We hope to build a pump track with future funding and get some new small BX bikes in order for all the young boys and girls of McGregor to experience the joys of riding and being outdoors & living a healthy life. McGregor is a small very integrated village and mountain biking gives these young men hope. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope to see some of you in September at this year’s R2N 3 day stage event.”
You are welcome to drop any kit at Trail and Tar and we will make sure it gets to McGregor. Thank you for your support.
